This Privacy Policy explains how SNOWMTL (“SNOWMTL”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use our free AI translator, including the text translator, the image translator, and the OCR translator, at snowmtl.net. We built this policy to be genuinely readable, not a wall of legal filler. Information We Collect
In short: we collect account details you provide, the content you submit for translation, and a limited amount of technical data needed to keep the service secure and fair for everyone.
We collect only what is reasonably necessary to operate a reliable, abuse-resistant AI translator:
- Account data — name, email address, and a securely hashed password when you create an optional account.
- Submitted content — the text you paste into the text translator, and the images you upload to the image translator / OCR translator, for the purpose of generating a translation.
- Usage data — translation history, saved files, and language preferences, if you are signed in and choose to keep this history.
- Technical data — IP address, browser user agent, device type, and timestamps, used for rate limiting, fraud prevention, and diagnosing errors.
- Communications — messages you send us through the Contact form, including the content of your inquiry.
- Cookies and similar technologies — session identifiers and preference cookies described in our Cookie Policy.

In practical terms, we use collected information to:
- Provide, run, and improve the text translator, image translator, and other AI translator features.
- Authenticate accounts, protect against unauthorized access, and prevent automated abuse of the API.
- Send transactional emails, such as verification codes and password reset links.
- Analyze aggregated, non-identifying usage trends to prioritize new languages or features.
- Respond to support requests submitted through the Contact page.
We do not use the content you submit for translation to build public profiles about you, and we do not sell your submitted text or images to third parties.
Third-Party Translation and OCR Providers
To keep the language translator fast and free, SNOWMTL routes translation requests through a fallback chain of independent, publicly available translation providers (such as LibreTranslate, MyMemory, Lingva, and similar services), automatically switching between them if one is temporarily rate-limited or unavailable. Image OCR text extraction is performed using Tesseract OCR when available on our servers. These providers process the text or extracted content only long enough to return a translation result; we do not control their infrastructure directly, and you should avoid uploading content you are not permitted to share for processing.
Cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies to keep you logged in and remember basic preferences, such as your last-used target language. We do not use invasive third-party advertising trackers. Full details, including cookie names and durations, are available in our Cookie Policy.
Data Security
We apply reasonable technical safeguards to protect your information, including password hashing, session controls, rate limiting, and restricted access to production systems. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable, industry-standard precautions appropriate for a free AI translator of this scale, and we monitor for unusual account activity.
Data Retention
We retain personal data only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy. Account records persist until you request deletion. Submitted text and images used for a single translation request are generally processed transiently and not stored long-term, though short-lived caching may temporarily retain common phrases to speed up repeat requests through the text translator. Technical logs used for security and rate limiting are rotated on a routine schedule rather than kept indefinitely.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited data only in these circumstances:
- With the third-party translation and OCR providers described above, solely to generate your requested translation.
- With hosting and infrastructure providers who process data on our behalf under confidentiality obligations.

Legal Basis for Processing

Automated Processing
Translation itself is an automated process by nature — text and extracted OCR content are passed through AI-assisted translation models and third-party providers without manual human review of each request. We do not use this automated processing to make legal or similarly significant decisions about you as an individual; it exists solely to generate the translation output you asked for.
Children’s Privacy
SNOWMTL is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, please contact us so we can remove it.
International Use
Because SNOWMTL is a multilingual online translator used globally, your information may be processed on servers located in a different country than your own. We take reasonable steps to protect information regardless of where it is processed.
Changes to This Policy
